Owls Compete in Season-Opener

The Foothill Owls Women's Soccer team officially kicked off the season, taking on the Cabrillo Seahawks at home. It was a strong start by the home side, getting their bearings and defending with tenacity. Goalkeeper Kira Biondi was widely considered Player Of The Match, coming up with incredible saves time and time again. The belief and enthusiasm of the Owls grew with each save and successful defensive sequence, while also gaining confidence in coping with set-pieces. Cabrillo ultimately capitalized on their chances and found the back of the net twice toward the end of the first half.

Going into the half with the score 2-0, Head Coach, Imaan Kerchgani explained, "I reminded our girls that 2-0 is commonly considered the most dangerous score line in our sport, one goal and the momentum shifts entirely."

As the second half wore on, fatigue started to set in for the home team. Cabrillo demonstrated their experience and began to pull away, despite a valiant defensive effort. A promising relationship was developing between the back line, which included one of the strongest Center Back pairings in the league with Mia Pistalek and Becky Andrews, flanked by two dynamic Full Backs in Noel Bowles and Abby Garcia.

The Owls will aim to improve in the return leg, with a final scoreline of 5-0. "We got some good experience here today with 16 players getting minutes and no significant injuries, an important factor in our team?s ability to grow and build off of our first outing," Coach, Imaan Kerchgani.

The Owls face the College of Marin next at home, that game kicks off at 4:00pm on Friday, September 9th.
