Laurie Bertani was born and raised in San Jose were she attended Leigh High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Sonoma State University while also playing Intercollegiate soccer. She then received her Master's degree from San Jose State University. After college she spent time in Tahoe and Vail as a ski instructor. She is married with two girls.
Laurie has been with Foothill College since 2001.
