Foothill College Swimmers Shine at 3C2A State Championships

The Foothill College Men's and Women's Swimming Teams made a splash at the 3C2A State Swimming Championships held at Orange Coast College from May 2nd to May 4th, leaving a trail of impressive performances and shattered records in their wake. Led by a talented roster of athletes, both teams showcased their determination, skill, and competitive spirit throughout the championships.

Women's Team Highlights:

The Women's team kicked off the championships with a series of remarkable achievements in relay events. The Women’s 200 Freestyle Relay powered their way to a commendable 6th place finish, clocking in at 1:40.18. Not to be outdone, the Women’s 400 Medley Relay and Women’s 200 Medley Relay both secured 5th place finishes, setting new Foothill College school records with times of 4:03.14 and 1:50.57, respectively. The Women’s 400 Freestyle Relay continued the trend of success, claiming 6th place with a time of 3:40.97. These relay teams, consisting of Kaylin Welch, Karla Serafin-Medina, Sonia Khan, and Olivia Khan, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and determination.

In individual events, Olivia Khan emerged as a standout performer, clinching 3rd place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 58.34. She continued her stellar performance by securing 2nd place in the 200 Backstroke, setting a new Foothill College school record with a time of 2:05.85. Sonia Khan showcased her talent by breaking a 32-year-old Foothill College school record in the 100 Butterfly, finishing 3rd with a time of 58.73. She also impressed in the 200 Butterfly, claiming 10th place and setting another school record with a time of 2:20.21. Kaylin Welch and Karla Serafin-Medina contributed to the team's success with strong finishes in multiple events, while Amelia Peyton delivered solid performances in the backstroke events.

Men's Team Highlights:

The men's team delivered noteworthy performances, with Brandon Wang leading the charge. Wang showcased his prowess in the breaststroke events, finishing 6th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 56.90 and 8th in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:06.93. He also impressed in the 200 Individual Medley, securing 14th place.

Overall Team Performance:

The Foothill College Women’s team finished the championships in an impressive 10th place, while the Men’s team secured 23rd place overall. With the majority of the team set to return for the next season, the future looks bright for Foothill College Swimming. The dedication, talent, and determination displayed by both teams at the State Championships underscore their status as formidable contenders in the 3C2A. As they look ahead to future competitions, the Foothill Owls are poised to continue making waves and reaching new heights in collegiate swimming.
