Women's Soccer Ranked #2 in the Nation, Begin Season 5-0

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress women's soccer team (5-0) is off to a historic start as they were ranked #2 in the nation by the NJCCA (National Junior College Athletic Association) in the first women's soccer rankings of the year. The Lady Chargers have been on a tear scoring six goals in each of their last three games. 

Cypress women's soccer traveled to Foothill College on Friday, September 10th, to take on the Owls in which they defeated handily, 6-0. Forward Brianna Cortez, scored three goals for Cypress notching her second hat trick in as many games. She also added one assist to go along with Kylee Castro's goal in the 34th minute. Kylee Castro had a big game of her own where she assisted on the first two goals of the game for the Chargers. Fabiola Salazar (23') and Brianna Rodriguez (41') each put one in the back of the net to give the Chargers a commanding victory. 

On Sunday afternoon, Cypress traveled up north to face Evergreen Valley. Brianna Cortez was the leading force on the offense again, notching her third hat trick in a row for Cypress. Cortez now leads the OEC in goals scored (10) as well as points (24) in only five games. Anahi Diaz played the facilitator role on Sunday as she assisted on two goals both to Cortez (10' and 33'). Christine Duarte found the back of the net for her second goal this season in the 19th minute to put the Chargers up 3-0. Jassmin Ortiz scored her first goal of the season (26') along with the lone yellow card of the game in the 44th minute. Kylee Castro (42') scored her second goal in as many game assisted by Brianna Cortez

UP NEXT: Cypress (5-0) will begin conference play on Tuesday, Septemeber 28th against Irvine Valley (1-3-1). The Chargers will host the game at Ray Haas Field where it will kick off at 3pm.
