Cuesta Women's Basketball wasted no time setting the tone for the 2023-24 campaign by scoring a new program record for points in a game.  The Cougars hosted Foothill to open the season and pasted 27 points on the Owls, including five three-pointers, in their first quarter.  Cuesta followed that introduction with back-to-back 29-point periods, before slowing to 23 points and clinching a 108-54 victory.   The Cougars scoring flurry broke the school record of 107 points set against Butte during the Cuesta Tournament in December 2013.  Freshman Reese Pasternik (pict) and Returning Forward Abigail Lacy both shined in their season debut.  Pasternik recorded the first triple-double by Cuesta player (on record) by netting 24 points, while posting game-highs with 14 rebounds and 10 assists.  Her 10 assists are also just one off the school record set by former All-State Forward Nece Bonds in 1997 and later tied by five others.  Lacy added a game-high 27 points, on 12-for-17 shooting, to lead the Cougars' offense, while also finishing a point shy of making Cuesta list of Top 30 best scoring games.   Freshman Andrea Rodriguez Ibanez came off the bench to provide the Cougars with some firepower with 15 points, while fellow Rookie Akasha Asberry grabbed 10 rebounds and put up six points in her first college game.  The Cuesta Cagers are 1-0 on the season for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.

Cuesta Women's Basketball is back action next week with three home games that mirror the men's games.  The Cougars host Chabot (5 PM), while the men play West Hills-Coalinga (7 PM) in the nightcap on Tuesday and precede the men's tournament games on Friday (3 PM) and Saturday (1 PM), when they host Skyline and Santa Monica, respectively.
